Susan has traveled the world for many years. Vancouver is her home but she has lived in S.E. Asia, South and Central America, as well as in Africa. She trained as an anthropologist in Canada and later worked with the United Nations peacekeeping and peace building operations in various countries. While in the Sudan she discovered the bead markets of Africa and the bead treasures that reflect both the history of African trade and the culture of its people.

The beads Susan uses in her designs often represent places she has visited, the stones are semi-precious and the glass and crystal beads are specially chosen for their beauty and their compatibility with the stones. Stones are believed by cultures through-out history to possess special qualities – for some they are sacred or magical, and they are said to protect travelers, to give valor to warriors, to heal the ill, to repel evil-eye, to bring calm to the spirit, to enhance ESP or to promote friendship and love. For most of us the light, the texture and the color that these stones possess lift our spirits with their beauty, and fascinate our minds by their history and the distant places they come from.

Each piece will be accompanied by a description of the stones that make it up as well as by the qualities that have been attributed to these stones.
